About this template
Alumni databases decay at about a fifth a year as people move jobs and drop student email addresses. A short update form sent annually is the cheapest fix, and asking for the name used while studying is what lets you match the record instead of creating a duplicate.
The involvement checklist is the real payload. Most alumni offices ask separately for mentors, speakers, and placement hosts, which means three mailings and three low response rates. Asking once, as a list with an explicit not right now option, gets you a usable pipeline from a single send.
The contact preference question reduces unsubscribes more than any amount of copy polishing, because people who choose once a year actually stay on the list. Add a giving question only if you have somewhere to route it, since mixing fundraising into a data refresh lowers completion.
